The town of Bethel, Maine is situated on the peaceful side of the White Mountains, northeast of the White Mountain National Forest, most of which is located in New Hampshire. Legendary backpacking and hiking, camping, breathtaking drives, bicycle routes, swimming holes, waterfalls, and endless outdoor enjoyment can all be found in the White Mountains.

Crocker Pond and Evans Notch are the closest sites to Bethel, each requiring a 15 to 20-minute drive. A 45-minute journey gets you to Pinkham Notch, the east slope of Mt. Washington in the Presidential Mountains, and the Appalachian Mountain Club headquarters.

The  Androscoggin Ranger District  office and visitor center, 300 Glen Road (Rt. 16), is the closest ranger station. It is five miles south of the town of Gorham, NH. The visitor center features a retail area with maps, books, recreation passes, and other items for sale, as well as interpretive displays and regional information.
